Advanced Digital Dentistry

At Morden Dentist we have invested in the latest technology to make our dentistry and diagnosis extremely accurate, safe and comfortable for our patients.  We have a CBCT Scanner and an Intra-oral Scanner. Having this type of technology on site means we don’t have to send our patients elsewhere to have their scans, making their treatment planning quicker and more efficient.

CBCT Scanner

CBCT Scanner

A cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan is a painless x-ray that produces 3D images of your teeth, jaws and the surrounding bone and soft tissue. We can use CBCT scans to diagnose and treat a variety of dental issues and for accurate dental implant planning.

CBCT scans use a lower dose of radiation than a typical CT scan. The amount of radiation is very small and unlikely to cause long-term harm.

  • Using a CBCT scanner for diagnostic purposes means much more accurate treatment plans.
  • It also gives us the ability to demonstrate each intraoral scan, digital x-ray, and CT scan to patients so they can visualise each stage of treatment.
  • CBCT technology has added a whole new dimension to digital diagnostic dentistry.

Intra-Oral Scanner

At Morden Dentist we also have an Intra-oral scanner which enables us to take high resolution images from inside the mouth and show the results, in real time, to patients via an in-practice screen. You can also see the expected end results of your treatment in 3D.

When taking impressions of your teeth, our powerful scanners use state-of-the-art digital impression systems that eliminate the need for messy putty in your mouth. This allows us to digitally capture a detailed 3D model of your teeth and bite. Benefits include:

  • No putty in your mouth or gag to worry about.
  • More comfortable impression taking.
  • Fast, accurate 3D images.
  • See the results immediately on a screen.

Advanced Digital Dentistry

There are many applications for these 3-dimensional images:

  • Planning for dental implants and minor oral surgery can now be diagnosed in very accurate detail. This results in much better outcomes for dental implant placing.
  • Another advantage of CBCT scanning is that it safely delivers a low dose of radiation compared to hospital based Spiral CT Scanners.
  • Digital scanners measure the depth, width and density of the jawbone, and more importantly the depth of bone near vital structures, like nerve canals and sinus cavities, in a 3D view.
  • The image resolution is also good enough to assess complex root canal systems before or after endodontic treatment.
